I use VMDX sporadically, yet consistently so over the last decade (or more??). I have dozens of projects scattered around my system, and whenenver starting a new project I often open old projects to give me a quick start. But I don’t have a fixed monitor situation, I’m traveling and use different types of setups, sometimes it’s just my laptop screen other times I have 3 monitors. Because of this I always come across issues when opening a project that was built on a different monitor setup, for example I may see PART of the windows somewhere offscreen, so I have to opt+drag the window-group and move it into full view. Other times however the windows just aren’t visible at all. No matter what I do, I just can’t seem to recover the project.
I usually use VDMX in the spur of a creative moment, as opposed to being a primary tool for a large project where I’d invest time into building a project. It’s more of a tool that I use alongside Premiere, Ableton, Loopback, to quickly run some audio/visuals through its sound reaction and midi controlled fx.
But the issues I have when re-opening old projects as templates is an issue that often I end up giving up on using vdmx as I don’t have time to poke around with this layout troubleshooting, so I just quit the program entirely.
So my question to you guys: are there any tricks I can do to avoid this? I’ve created clean, empty templates for myself, only to run into the same issue whenever my monitor setup changes. Maybe there’s some setup tricks I’m missing?
Secondly, does VDMX6 address this by chance? It would be quite an incentive for me to upgrade if that’s the case, as this is quite a fundamental UX issue that’s stopping me from using the tool more consistently.
P.S. I also get this issue, the workaround being that I need to turn wifi off and restart VDMX. I know the solution is just to… upgrade. But it does kinda add up to the same hiccups that are shutting me out from using the software.
Congrats on VDMX6 by the way!!
