VDMX CAPTURE (difference between screen output + capture)

Hi everyone,

I am trying to record my vdmx output. There is quite a difference between what I see on my screen and what is being captured. I’m not sure what settings I should be using or if capturing at the same quality that I see on my screen from the vdmx output is even possible but was hoping for some insight.

I have access to a PC with a Black Magic DeckLink Quad 2 and was thinking I might try capturing from that on the PC but figured a quick message here first might help out.

Cheers

VDMX output (Looks great, I wish I could capture at this resolution)

Playback from VDMX Capture. (looks pretty crappy to me)

Are you viewing the playback file in Quicktime? Try open it in VLC, see if it’s still dull. If that is the case then there is a levels issue. Quicktime sometimes displays Full Range data as Video data.

Hey Adam, Thanks so much for the reply. I tried watching it in VLC and still see the same issues…

You complete have me lost here. Any help on fixing this and getting the results I am looking for would be much appreciated.

What are the spec’s or your machine and what resolution? You might want to try another codec instead of Prores. There’s often a trade off between computation and size. Another option is to use syphon and record on the same computer with syphon record. Or if your machine is underpowered you can always do NDI across the network to another computer for the recording part.
