Are you viewing the playback file in Quicktime? Try open it in VLC, see if it’s still dull. If that is the case then there is a levels issue. Quicktime sometimes displays Full Range data as Video data.

You complete have me lost here. Any help on fixing this and getting the results I am looking for would be much appreciated.
What are the spec’s or your machine and what resolution? You might want to try another codec instead of Prores. There’s often a trade off between computation and size. Another option is to use syphon and record on the same computer with syphon record. Or if your machine is underpowered you can always do NDI across the network to another computer for the recording part.
