I’m using VDMX while also DJ:ing, currently w/ a Denon Prime Go standalone DJ controller. Works great w/ Ableton Link and a couple of heavily filtered Audio Analysis plugins in VDMX. (Akai APC mini for hardware midi-control in VDMX.)
But I still want to have my VDMX fx more closely follow specific parts of audio, i.e. melody (keys). Filtering always leaves some bleed from e.g. the kick drum.
So I’m experimenting with using AI for isolating clean stems to use for audio sources in VDMX. I prepare the stems beforehand, so each stem exactly matches the corresponding part of the same full track played from my DJ controller.
My question is how to make sure that the stem that’s played in VDMX starts at the very same moment I hit play on the full track on the DJ controller?
DJ controllers are very stupidly designed in general and have separate modes for MIDI vs performance. Can’t send midi directly from its play button. Also, the Prime Go has only two (stereo) channels, for the mix to main output.
Best I can think of is buying a separate midi controller for triggering audio in vdmx manually. Smth like another APC w/ each pad triggering an audio file. Or, maybe foot switches? Or some other DJ controller entirely? Or a big midi-knob? Mixer, drumpad, hardware sampler, duct tape, magic wand?
