Sticking stickers

How does everyone label all those knobs and levers on your midi-controllers? Let’s geek out on all that sexy office tech!

I’m using a nanoKontrol 2 and an APCmini, so there’s very little space for stickers and also their plastic surfaces are kinda sticker-repellent.

Sticking would be feature #1 I’m looking for in stickers. For that, the best I’ve found so far is the Dymo LabelManager 160. There are ‘extra sticky’ cassettes for it, and they do stick rather well.

But since the stickers have to be small, I like to use pictograms, symbols, clip-art etc rather than words or letters. Little pictures that in some way remind me of what each particular lever controls, for example an hourglass would be related to time, slowing down. Things like that.

The LabelManager has very few of those little pictures. And it’s also a pain to navigate its keyboard and display. I’d much rather type on my phone and send to it, like some other models do. (I change things around a lot, and every time is a bit of a hassle. Gets very annoying very quickly.)

Pls share your best tips for keeping those little reminders on your gear!

Maybe something like this but whiteboard material

I made these laser cut overlays for my MIDI Fighter Twister, and then use a Wet erase ultra-fine point marker to write the controls or abbreviations or whatever on them. Since they are temporary for a particular set-up/gig I can remember what the abbreviations mean. Then I can re-use them by just washing the marker ink off with soap and water. The marker works pretty well and does not smear unless it gets wet. I made a little tab to lift them off on one corner and have a few to swap between for different set-ups. I use a little dab of ‘blu-tack’ to hold them onto the Twister so they don’t slide around. Works pretty well.

Dude, fantastic, thank you for sharing!!!

You can also find overlays on Etsy. For temporary stuff I think there are some heavy paper versions that you can temporarily stick on with bluetack or something.
