Rutt Etra comes as a separate plugin bundle when you install VDMX. It is made by an outside developer. If you wrote an FX plugin for VDMX, you could share it with community.
It would then be up to you, to take your free time and rewrite the code behind that plugin to work with M1 Macs natively. For now, most users run VDMX under Rosetta 2 to avoid loss of functionality.
This will most likely stay this way until there is an Apple Silicon only version of VDMX. At that point, everything included with VDMX should be updated and working, but this will leave out Intel Macs from future updates (which (as a guess) account for most VDMX users). So for now, VDMX walks the in between line of cross compatibly.
I found that vuo has a rutt etra composition. (https://vuo.org/node/1205) I’m wondering if anyone has had success getting it to run on an M1 mac natively and not with Rosetta, which is just too slow?
Hi, and thanks for making this. Would it show up in the Layer FX dropdown or is there another way to apply this? I’ve dragged it into the directory with the other .fs files and it doesn’t appear in the dropdown. I’m sure I’m doing it wrong, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Having the same issue. @Destroythings which folder does that fs file go in to? can’t see it in any of the FX dropdown. Any help getting Rutt Etra to work would be much appreciated.
As an alternative head over to Vuo and try the Displace 3D Object with Image node. You should be able to make something close to Rutt Etra but maybe not as elegant as the original. See the rough example in the attached image.
Search the VDMX tutorials for a guide on making Vuo FX, David covered this subject some time ago.
thanks for the help. upon placing it in there can you see it in the FX dropdown automatically or there is a step to install it. i put it in here and nothing…
Thanks got it and the original Rutt Etra to work, turns out i had not installed the QC Software in the Extras folder when you initially install VDMX5. Hope this helps any one else having the same issue.
