NotchLC codec

Hey,

I know you’ve built HAP and it’s been great so far, but NotchLC is pushing things forward and I was wondering if you planning to implement the codec anytime soon.

Cheers!

I think this has been mentioned on the forums before, but I’m surprised I didn’t see an answer to your post.

NotchLC seems to have a few issues when working with macs.

  1. Their current installer isn’t verified:
MacOS flags NotchLC installer as malicious - NotchLC - Notch Community Forum

  2. People report transcoding on Mac to be 5X longer than PC:
Transcoding notch LC on mac super slow - NotchLC - Notch Community Forum

  3. They don’t have an SDK for mac (this is obviously the main reason). Until they do there, it can’t be implmented into VDMX.

Others have requested this support as well: [NOT POSSIBLE] NotchLC | TroikaTronix Forum

So until they get enough user requests and make an SDK, other applications won’t be able to use it.

I asked for this on their forums, so we’ll have to see what they say: NotchLC SDK for Mac? - NotchLC - Notch Community Forum

More updates on this. It looks like NotchLC is also a proprietary codec, so VIDVOX would have to pay for permission to let you use the codec inside of VDMX. This is most likely the reason it is also not accepted in Resolume (and since resolume sells their own proprietary codec / DXV).

I’m assuming if VDMX supported NotchLC, then it would drive up the license price higher than users are willing to pay for the addition of this feature. At least HAP is open…
