Music Video Advice

Hi All,

Hope you’re well. I’m working on a music video for a friend, and wanted advice on what you think the best way of putting this together is. Some of the footage is the artist singing her lyrics.

I would assume most people here record clips/portions in VDMX and then piece them together in Adobe or iMovie or something? Is there any ideas I’m not considering? I had once considered recording clips, and then recording a final take in VDMX by transitioning the clips within VDMX itself, but this may be too hard since some is synced to the music.

As for the technique, this is definitely up to you and what you want your end results to be. I’ve made music videos that were completely edited in Premiere or Davinci, then tossed them through VDMX a few times to add FX over top, then went back in and stitched the “Frankensteined” videos together for the final.

I would love to find a path to use:

1 large folder of visual content + 1 folder of audio content

2 Layers → 1 Recording :))

in the Mix

Deadandco, what I’ve done in the past is similar to what you mentioned and what Projectile Objects mentioned. I would recommend building your movie in Premiere / Davinci, focusing on getting your clips with artist singing audio properly placed in timeline. Once you have those clips locked in the proper position, fill in the rest. Once you have a solid movie, export with audio and import into VDMX. From there, ‘movie record’ takes to a external hard drive and see what happens when you layer VDMX over the entire movie.
Here is a video I made utilizing that pathway:
