Hi!
I just learned that to open up a saved project I need to have the media files intact. In my case video recordings that I put in the templets. So now I have a great chaos on my computer due to iCloud sync trouble. So all my maps and objects where I kind of stored everything is up in the cloud. And now I have kind of working on sawing everything before resync so I don’t lose anything. Right now I am not able to open a project if I go through iCloud in Finder. So my question is how can I save the project best not to lose it and connect with the media (videoclips I put in the templet) Because right now I don´t now exactly were the media is for each project since I didn´t now that that was crucial to save inserted media in it´s origin preferably close to each project. So what is the best way to think before I resync to iCloud and hopefully the project finds the media I used for the project.
Sincerely A
I would suggest to put media on local storage and not on the cloud. Even if media is not in the same directory as when the project was saved VDMX does a good job at finding it on their own.
The only issue is with bigger databanks of videos, above 5000 clips.
The problem isn’t with VDMX’s functionality, it’s a matter of order (it can be applied to any other software). Fortunately, VDMX has a very powerful file relinking feature, and in the vast majority of cases, it links all the missing material, wherever it is, without any problems.
I suggest (I always use this method, and it’s very portable) keeping all your video assets, etc., on an SSD hard drive just for that purpose. I organize them by folder type, size, aesthetics, etc., even by year. That way, I can find releases from a specific year very quickly. Having everything on the same disk and in the same root (for example, disk SSS/Loops_2025/minimal_loops/) helps the program search only in one path. If it doesn’t find everything in that path, it will most likely be in a higher one…/loops_2025/.
If I change computers, I just have to connect my external hard drive and it will find everything at once.
Also, with this method, it’s very easy to have a backup in the cloud, which you can download in batches and copy back to a hard drive.
Another way VDMX offers is to browse and sync specific folders. Everything you upload or change in those folders will be reflected in your VDMX library. A very powerful and little-known feature.
