I’m a one man band so to speak, doing visuals + music. Gear needs to be portable and affordable, so I’m running VDMX on a 2021 MacBook Pro using external SSD storage (USB 10Gbs) for my video loops.
Gear does its best but ofc it heats up a lot, getting stutters & glitches at times. Poor things need upgrades, esp the SSD.
So, looking for tips on how to handle gear heating up, esp SSDs.
I’ve seen a few USB SSDs that are marketed with e.g. cooling materials for the chassis. Do they work well enough to make a difference?
Also saw this easy DIY-solution on reddit, anyone here tried it? (the squabble over details is hilarious too!) https://www.reddit.com/r/macmini/comments/1i1yhtp/easy_solution_for_external_ssd_heating_as_an/
I’ve also been using ordinary desktop fans + a laptop cooling platter w/ fans for the MacBook. Simple as can be, but it works.
Please share what you’ve got on cooling on a budget!
