Not sure what I think but will create a login to have a play. For me the new AI tools create a challenge as I see students using them without any real understanding of the process or code. But I’m also seeing rapid changes in how students use AI or not.

I gave it a try with the following prompt: Make a generative animation which uses the sound from the computers microphone to create a canvas full of wildflowers which move according to the intensity of the sound.
The process took around 5 mins and was pretty underwhelming. There was a bit of feedback from the agent but basically a simple comment like “doing stuff”. It also crashed my browser and was unresponsive when reloaded.
This is what it created but I couldn’t make any changes because it crashed the browser (Safari).
Not a great experience and for the chosen task I would absolutely get a better result by filming the real world or scanning wildflowers to animate in blender. However I found a couple of “tools” which were nicely thought out and usable. These could be exported as video files (free account) or as code (paid premium account).
Not for me, I would prefer to spend the money on a good lens but give it a try… or not if you don’t want to burn electricity unnecessarily. My justification was to keep up with my students who will undoubtably be pushed towards this in the socials as I was

Have you explored Claude or chatgpt much?
Its been melting my brain a bit -
After seeing an after effects animator describe their process, I’ve been approaching claude like this -
- Uploading into project folder - a text file (2 pages listing artistic directions, techniques interested in)
- Pointing to the ISF spec
- And then asking the feasibility of various effects, even from photos of sketched diagrams…
- And asking to bring in side-knowledge from game engines / houdini / nuke / any other software approaches that might be useful…
- Discuss how this effect could work, and describe a few surprise variants that could suit my interests…
Once design is settled, it delivers ISF files, drop those into relevant VDMX folders, play and take screenshots of things you like or dont, re; slider settings…
And get a v2 with better tuned sliders, or sliders that multi-function (eg divide 0-1 by 3, 0-0.33 = blend mode A, 0.33-0.66 = blend mode B, 0.66-1 = blend mode C, but also use this value when in C to additionally drive another parameter from 0-1)
Im finding its also useful for building FX that live in one layer - but open up options to mix other layers in new ways - by offering selection of other layers, and pre-treating / scaling / colouring those in various ways… some of it just being a cleaner, layer minimal way of doing things that can be done easily in many layers, but other things much more complex with motion / blending / distortions / texturing etc etc
Have mostly been exploring stylised compositing FX in various ways, rather than pure generative Brik-flower stuff… but very much enjoying the process atm…
