Artifacts in cloudy areas?

I’ve got a handful of clips that contain cloudy, light coloured areas. These get discoloured when applying e.g. Bump Distortion Linear fx. Color Posterize gets me a nearly identical result, for reference.

Are there ways / best practices to handle this?

It’s not that I have to use those fx on those particular clips, but I keep forgetting which fx / clip combos are the ones to watch out for (it’s always the same ones). Saying this because labelling or similar might do the trick, doesn’t have to be a technical solution.

Thanks!

Would you share photos so we can see what you see?

Of course

FYI I’m now thinking it’s not VDMX, but the rendering app I’m using. Not sure at all, but I just might have rendered all the problematic ones in fractal renderer/animator Chaotica. Guessing there’s some alpha channel weirdness going on already from the source, but only visible in some cases.
