using latest update on Tahoe. - the audio analyser freezes and video playback regularly just pauses for several frames before playing back again regular speed- using isf generators and filters and or movie files same problem.. Have tried both the VUo options- dont know if I need to clear out some of the isf Im not using? thanks in advance -Paul
Could you let us know more about your system specs? Also, what codec are your video files?
TouchDesigner .tox files take a moment to load the touch engine, but that shouldn’t freeze anything else unless your CPU, Memory, SSD, or GPU is overloaded.
thanks. It’s happening without any video files loaded-just with isf and audio analysis and only started recently and on projects that were working fine before– not sure if it could be Tahoe or some touch designer , vuo or custom isf overloading components - have cleared room on internal drive and using fast ssd drive - VDMX 6 plus MacBook Pro Tahoe 26.1 M2 Max 64 g ram- let me know if there is any other helpful info or ways to test/track down the problem- thanks heaps, Paul
I just did another experiment- loaded up a project file - played fine until I touched the layer source window. I screen captured a movie file to show weirdness that when I dragged the Layer Source Window to the far side of the screen opposite side to apple menu– the stop/start playback started - then when I dragged it back to the other side of the screen(apple logo and menu side) the playback resumed smoothly ? I dont seem to be able to attach the screen capture movie file here-but could email if its of any use. 2nd Test working on same project file playing smoothly until I switch to fullscreen display on laptop monitor instantly returns to stop -start playback
You can submit a bug report. Go to the top help menu > Report Bug
I might have the same issue as yours, so just to confirm it, do you mind trying out the following?:
- Make a preview plugin and pop out its window (or start a project with any templates that comes with previews like 4 Layer VJ and Simple player etc)
- Load a clip to any layer
- Cover the layer’s preview window with any other non-VDMX window
- (Observe frame drops on the entire VDMX)
- Move the non-vdmx window away
- (Observe frame drop is gone)
Mine is behaving like this, if that is the same for you, then we are on the same issue, as I signed up here to look into this problem as well, and it is quite a breaking problem for live scenarios on single monitor
Hi @mio9 can you provide your system specs here. Can you also submit a bug report as mentioned above.
HI mio9 and Projectile Objects - I tried this mio9 and couldn’t get it to cause the error. For me just a window in VDMX being dragged across to the left of the screen was causing the problem at one stage.. BUT I haven’t submitted a bug report because I cannot repeat the problem reliably –it just seems to happen every now and then, perhaps after a while- which is I agree super worrying for live events especially AND BUT.. I actually just noticed bland powerpoint exhibiting the drop frames stop-start playback - so Im worried there’s something up with TAHOE my video plugins generally or some hardware fault- so it might not have anything to do with VDMX particularly – confused and troublesome:). thanks Paul
Hi Paul, thanks for the update. Tahoe is new, so it’s not uncommon for there to be strange issues with VDMX or macOS. Definitely good to know if other native mac apps are causing it.
Thanks
It’s a rather new macbook pro M4, I’ll file a bug report shortly on that regard, but since the problem goes away by not obstructing the main controls (which, you shouldn’t to begin with), it’s not too much of an issue now
Definitely send in a bug report with the info for this reproducible test case. Thanks
